Chittagong is the second-largest city of Bangladesh with a population of about 2 million (and rising). The city is located on Karnaphuli River on the Bay of Bengal.
Among the city’s sights are several tombs and religious shrines including the Tomb of Sultan Bayazid Bostami (note the hundreds of tortoises in the tank representing evil souls). The Shah Jame Mosque built on a hillside offers excellent views. The 14th-century Qadam (Kadam) Mubarak Mosque contains what’s said to be a footprint of the Prophet.
Other attractions include the ethnological museum in Agrabad the World War II Military Cemetery (graves of British Australian and other soldiers) the 300-year-old Portuguese Arsenal (interesting architecture) and the harbor area (called the “Sadarghat ” it’s the city’s oldest area).
Foy's Lake The most picturesque site in Chittagong city is Foy's lake. It is in the north-werstern side of Chittagong city. You can reach there by a car or by an auto Rickshaw. It is 6 kilometers from Chittagong New Market which is in the centre of the city. There you can enjoy the real beauty of nature that you have ever seen. There is a small lake surrounded by few hills. Some of them are high enough and some are low. You can view the whole city and suburban and the Bay-of-Bengal from the top of the hill. Everything is natural. Nothing has been done by the people. Everyday many tourists from home and abroad visit this beautiful places.
Potenga Sea Beach Though Cox's Bazar is the world's largest sandy beach, there is another small beach in Chittagong. It is called Potenga Sea beach. If soemone is unable to visit Cox's Bazar, he can enjoy the fresh air of the sea if he goes to Potenga beach. It is 20 kilometers away from the central point of Chittagong City. You can go there by a taxi or by public bus. If you go by taxi it costs U$2.00 and if you go by public bus, it costs only a few cents. You can enjoy there a charming natural scene that you have ever seen. Everyday thousands of people visit this beautiful place.
