South-East Asia is a great place -a historically and cultural rich area. A visit to South-East Asia is an incredible experience. Every country has so many highlights to see it is not an easy task to single out a few. For the sightseer, the region has fantastic attractions to explore. There is something here for the history nut, the archaelogy freak, the nature lover, the photographer, the adventurer and the vacationist.
Most visitor enter the region by plane at one of the major travel hubs of Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila or Singapore. Do not believe that these cities are quiet places. Many visitor cannot stand the hectic life (and traffic) of these mega-cities.
Therefore many visitors head imediately for the beaches or the countryside. It is quite difficult to find an answer to the question which beach is the best. Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi in Thailand, Tioman Island, Perhentian Island, Penang , Boracay and the island of Cebu in the Philippines are well-known beaches.
And of course South-East Asia is home to some of the most important historical attractions to be found in thw world. The ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar and Borobudur in Indonesia are a must if time and money permits.
If you are into nature you can hike through primitive forests, for example in Papua New Guinea or Indonesia or do a great trip on the Mekong in Laos. The famous Khao Yai National Park in Thailand or Taman Negara National Park are highlights or head for Borneo and its Malaysian parts Sarawak and Sabah.
If you are into colonial architecture you can find traits in many places. The British left, for example, their marks in Yangon, Penang and Singapore; the French in Hanoi and other parts of Vietnam and the Spanish in the Philippines.
